Alright, with the first installment of the March Madness almost finished, I'd like some input on possible changes for next year. Here are some of my ideas: 1) 2 Standings for both bracket and round-by-round challenges, one set as they are currently and the other based on team seeding (example: correctly picking the 14 seed over the 3 would be worth 14 points instead of just 1). 2) If we get over 50 members interested (hard to imagine right now, but sooner or later it could happen), the current site couldn't be used unless I do something like "Broncos_Rule_All2" or whatever and then I'd compile all the stats from each into one big one on here. 3) More descriptions of each contest. 4) If one does not enter picks for the round-by-round challenge, the user's orginal bracket will be used. I sort of did that this year, but next year would be good to start it up as mandatory. |

Here's a list of challenges I plan on running in the future: MLB Playoffs (Round by Round and Complete Bracket) NFL Week by Week Pick'Em (starting at Week 1 going all the way to the Superbowl) NCAA Football Bowl Games Pick'Em All the others that have been started already I'm thinking about adding a Game by Game challenge next year to the NBA Playoffs and might do that with the MLB playoffs in October as well. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post. |

I'm thinking about changing the format of the NCAA Basketball Tournament Round By Round Challenge to include categories similar to that of the NBA RBR Challenge. Obviously, "games needed" isn't a possibly category, since it always just takes one. So, I'm thinking about a system where margin of victory is used: 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21+. I'm also thinking about changing the scoring of the NBA RBR Challenge. The way it is set up right now, if I picked a team to win in 4 and they lost in 4, I get no points...it seems as if there should be a big penalty for that...however, to correctly pick a team to sweep should also be awarded big points, and picking a team to win in 7 should be frowned upon, as that is typically the easy way out. So, here's a possible new points system: Pick a team to win in 4 games: Team correct, took 4 games: 8 points Team correct, took 5 games: 6 points Team correct, took 6 games: 4 points Team correct, took 7 games: 2 points Team incorrect, took 7 games: -2 points Team incorrect, took 6 games: -4 points Team incorrect, took 5 games: -6 points Team incorrect, took 4 games: -8 points Pick a team to win in 5 games: Team correct, took 5 games: 6 points Team correct, took 4 or 6 games: 4 points Team correct, took 7 games: 2 points Team incorrect, took 7 games: -2 points Team incorrect, took 4 or 6 games: -4 points Team incorrect, took 5 games: -6 points Pick a team to win in 6 games: Team correct, took 6 games: 4 points Team correct, took 5 or 7 games: 3 points Team correct, took 4 games: 2 points Team incorrect, took 5 or 7 games: -2 points Team incorrect, took 6 games: -3 points Team incorrect, took 4 games: -4 points Pick a team to win in 7 games: Team correct, took 7 games: 3 points Team correct, took 6 games: 2 points Team correct, took 5 games: 1 point Team correct, took 4 games: 0 points Team incorrect, took 7 games: -1 point Team incorrect, took 6 games: -2 points Team incorrect, took 5 games: -3 points Team incorrect, took 4 games: -4 points I realize this is more complex, however I believe it is more of an accurate system. Feedback is appreciated as always. |

Yeah, it's complicated, but, it's a big risk-big reward/small risk-small reward system. The biggest risk would be to call a sweep, so it should have the biggest reward and the biggest setback. Meanwhile, picking a 7 game series is the cheap way out, so it should have the smallest gain and the smallest loss and have a bigger loss than gain. I'll probably tweak it every now and then until the next playoffs. |

For the NFL and College Football Bowl Pick'em (I might even do a Top 25 Pick'em as well), I think I'll have it be no spread and just pick who you think will win...so if the Cardinals are favored by 7 over the 49ers and you pick the Cards and they win by 3, you still get the win. |

Alright, I'm getting just about ready to set up the NFL Pick Challenge. It'll be hosted on customsportspools.com just like the NCAA tournament bracket challenge was. So, if an admin could set up a forum for that challenge, that would be greatly appreciated. Also, let's keep the Playoff Challenge forum open as the MLB playoff challenges should go in that one too. Hard to believe that one is a little more than a month away... Speaking of, there will be 2 challenges for the MLB playoffs this year: Pick'Em To The End and Round by Round. The Round by Round rules will be the same as those for the NBA and NHL playoffs challenges earlier this year. |

The site is ready! http://www.customsportpools.com/cgi-bin/pi...roncos_Rule_All There are no spreads: just simply pick the winner. If you have trouble accessing the site, feel free to either PM me your picks or post them in the (future) NFL Pick'Em Challenge topic. Also, I'm thinking about adding a second scoring system: Most correct picks in the week: 5 points 2nd most correct picks in the week: 3 points 3rd most correct picks in the week: 1 point The above scoring system is based on 4 people participating during the season. If more (or less) people participate, the system will change accordingly. A topic will be made on the NFL challenge forum for you to post your picks (if you have trouble, or want to have different ones for the 2 challenges). When making your selections for week 1, also post your favorite to win the Superbowl. 15 points will be awarded to anyone who correctly picks the champion (again will change accordingly based on participation). As always, if you need something clarified or have a suggestion, or whatever, feel free to speak up (er...type up anyways) and post. |
