How many teams make it to the playoffs? I spent like a half hour yesterday looking for the answer but I couldn't get a number... must have looked in the wrong spots.

That's a very good question. And I can't find the answer, either.

I'm not sure why, according to the AHL site, that Rochester and Hamilton haven't clinched yet...Syracuse and Toronto can't catch them. I'm beginning to wonder if they've changed the structure of the playoffs, in which case my answer may be incorrect.

Yeah...my Crunch need to win every game and have Grand Rapids lose every game to get in...so that's not happening.

So, good luck to your Rochester Americans and the Albany River Rats...go NYS!

I'm looking at the 2006-07 AHL Season wikipedia page and the answer was right there if I had just looked and deciphered the info... they have the brackets set up and labeled on that page:

A1 vs A4
A2 vs A3

E1 vs E4
E2 vs E3

N1 vs N4
N2 vs N3

W1 vs W4
W2 vs W3

Yeah, but apparently since the North Division only has 6 teams, the 5th best team from the West Division can take the North Division's 4th spot, which I guess makes sense. Next year, the AHL will be expanding to 29 teams, which I guess would mean one division would have 8 teams and the other 3 would have 7 and whatever conference the 8 team division is in will be able to take the #4 spot from the other division in that conference.

So, Peoria and Grand Rapids are going for the final spot in the Western Conference.
