Tavares tied and then broke the old record of 70 set by Wayne Gretzky, and he still has two games remaining to add to his total of 71. He also added an assist. "It was pretty excited when I saw the puck go in. It was nice to finally get it," Tavares said. "It takes a bit of pressure off myself. I've been holding my stick a little tight the last couple games. Now I'm going to enjoy this with my teammates and my family." Peter Aston and Cal Clutterbuck also scored for the Generals (31-27-3-5), who missed an opportunity to clinch fourth spot in the Eastern Conference and home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Jamie McGinn led the 67's offence with a first period hat trick with all the goals coming on the power play. He also added an assist. Thomas Nesbitt, Logan Couture, Brett Liscomb and Mathieu Methot also scored for the 67's (29-33-0-4). Couture had three assists as well. "He's an outstanding kid an a special player, and he deserves all the credit he gets," 67's coach and general manager Brian Kilrea said of Tavares. The 67's still have an opportunity to catch the Sudbury Wolves for sixth in the Eastern Conference as they sit three points back of the Wolves with two games to play and a game in hand. The teams meet at the Civic Centre to close out the season on Sunday.
