The 2009 NCAA Division I, II, and III Men's Lacrosse Championships will be held for the second straight year in Greater Boston, the NCAA announced yesterday.

Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, home of the New England Patriots, was chosen over fellow finalists Philadelphia and Baltimore.  The two locations have hosted the event for the previous five years since the NCAA began hosting its final weekend in NFL stadiums.

"We received several attractive bids each presenting exciting opportunities in future years for showcasing Division I, II and III student-athletes competing for their respective championships at the same venue," said Tim Pavlechko, chair of the Division I Men's Lacrosse Committee  "In the end, the committees were committed to building upon the momentum and excitement that Boston has created for the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships."

:D ;)

I think for 2010 they need to break with their Boston-Philadelphia-Baltimore. I'm thinking Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver. Denver is a huge lacrosse city - the Denver Outlaws of MLL and Colorado Mammoth of NLL are two of the most popular lacrosse teams in the United States.

I think it's more about the teams. Since most of them are in the eastern US, whoever the Final Four teams end up being will get more of their fans to go if the game is relatively close to home than if it was on the other side of the country.

True enough. Still, I think that at some point they need to have a lacrosse showcase in the west. The Final Four...or maybe the Face-Off Classic?

I agree with that, it wouldn't hurt to have some sort of event in the western US. I think they did a few years ago...I vaguely remember Syracuse playing Georgetown out west.

Maybe the Faceoff Classic, then. If that works out, then they can consider the west for the Final Four.

As it is, the NCAA has put a hold on determining championship sites past 2009, so we won't know for a while.
