I figured we might as well have this thread. So, what are the latest games you bought, reviews, anticipation for one to come out, systems you use, etc? I'll start out by saying one of my favorites on the PC is Triple Play 2001. That's basically extreme baseball and the graphics aren't that great compared to today's standards, but it's still really fun and works on my XP machine, which surprised me. It's also where I got those fairly bizzare advertisements during last year's ATI BotC. I just recently ordered NHL 08 on Amazon.com, which should get here by mid-week next week. I figured it was about time to update it (the most recent NHL game I have is from 03), but one of the newer features that interested me was that the AHL teams are also there, and completely playable...at least, that's what the description says. I'll find out for sure next week. I've found that some games vary greatly between console and PC versions, even though they give each basically the same descriptions. As far as consoles are concerned, I have a Gamecube, with the favorite game there being Smash Bros Melee. It's a game where Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and many other characters fight each other. It's definitely the best cube game I have (though I don't have all that many games), and possibly the best of the cube games for all time. |

I have a 360. Mostly play Halo 3, GH 3, sometimes NHL 08. |

Is there anything I should know about NHL 08 before it arrives? |

Has anyone played any of the recent Madden games? Are they still good? I mean, I know it's a good series - we have Madden 2003 - but I had heard about some changes they had made to the game that I wasn't particularly fond of. I don't know...I'll probably get a version someday. They use some NFL Films music, right? Because that's just freaking cool. |

Madden is one of the best selling video game series, and for a reason, they're great. Madden 08 was pretty good. 07 I liked as well. I might buy 09. |

If they don't, and you have the PC version, you can add music to it...at least that's true with the 05 version I have...I don't know if that holds true with the more recent ones though. I like the 05 one, and I've heard that some of the newer features, like the QB vision or whatever it's called, can be turned off if you don't like it. I would say if the most recent one you have is 03, that you should probably update it. |

Okay, the QB vision is one of the things that I didn't like the sounds of. Music isn't a priority, but the NFL Films music is pretty cool. And yeah, I'd like to get my own version of the game. If the Pats win tonight, I'll probably get the next version, since that will have the current roster and all that.

I figured QB vision was one of them.
But yeah, from what I've heard most of the newer features can be turned off.You can get roster updates...either official or unofficial, but I can't say I'd blame you for doing it that way. I should probably get a new version within the next few years, I have a $20 Best Buy certificate coming, so that might be my purchase. |

Yeah...Madden 08...good game, sad that it's the last version that will be on PC though. One thing I'm not too fond of though is moving teams in dynasty mode. If you do, you can't keep the logos. Also the CPU will make some stupid ones (moved the Vikings to Boston...why?!). You can not allow teams to relocate in the set up, but that's not too realistic either for a mode that's 20 or whatever seasons long. I like Superstar mode though. I created a running back, and ended up getting drafted by the Bears...as if they really needed one. But you basically control a rookie (either one you make or one from the 2007 draft) from workouts to the game and interviews, etc. If your character isn't on the field, you control the team like the other modes, except you don't call the plays. They've redone the kicking meter since the last version I had (2005), though it still is fairly simple. The graphics are pretty good, though I noticed that the coaches are a bit off. By "off" I mean the faces are a few pixels from where the head base is, so on any given cutscene to the coach, it doesn't look so well. They have a feature called skill drills where you go up against some dummies to work on your passing, rushing, defense or pre-snap play calling. While highly unrealistic, it still is nice that they have a feature meant for getting used to the controls. I don't remember that in Madden 2005. Overall it is a nice improvement over the last one I have. I don't use the QB vision thing that much, except for when I have a big lead just to get a feel for it. |

They had the drills in 2003. And yeah, that's what I used them for, was a get a handle on the controls.Well, if Madden 08 is the last for PC, then I guess that's the one I want. BEcause I want one of them. |

These are different from those (if memory holds true...I had Madden 2003 for PC as well)...and those are there as well. There's the training camp mode or whatever where you had to throw through rings, bat/intercept the ball, kick/punt and so on. But there's also the skill drills with these:![]() I would remember if they were there before...unless...I never did that mode.
