Favre Tells Packers He's Retiring

Yup, but if they can't reach an agreement on where he goes, it would be best to just dump him. Probably the only thing worse than getting rid of an all time great is keeping an unhappy all time great.

What an eventful week. First, Brett Favre was still retired. Then he said he didn't want to be. Then he said that he doesn't want to play for the Packers anymore. Well, the next step is either playing or not, right? Not quite. The Green Bay Packers have now said that Brett Favre would be a welcome addition to their team and they would be more than happy to put him on the roster. As a backup.

ESPN article.

Brett Favre is not reporting to training camp.

No, he hasn't changed his mind (again) about retirement.

After discussing the situation with Packers GM Ted Thompson, Favre has agreed to stay way from training camp for the time being to allow the organization to be able to find a suitable resolution to the situation. Favre has recently asked to be released from the team to play wherever he would like rather than be Aaron Rodgers' backup, but the Packers have instead been thinking about trading the star quarterback. Jon Gruden and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly interested in signing yet another quarterback to their roster (maybe they think that Brett Favre would be open to being a star receiver? ;) ). Meanwhile, New York Jets camp opened with quarterback Kellen Clemens throwing an interception on his first pass, prompting the fans to begin a chant of "we want Favre". The Packers have given the Jets permission to discuss a trade with Favre, though head coach Eric Mangini insists he is happy with the quarterbacks he's got.

The Bucs seem like a good place for Favre...plus he'd be reunited with Gruden and contend for the playoffs.
I never thought of the Jets, and plus they're in the AFC so that's not a bad move.

Yeah, except for this story of the Jets...

Once upon a time...

THEY STINK!

The end.

Favre wouldn't like that at all.

And he wouldn't like Tampa because it's too warm (despite the fact that he lives in Louisiana...you know, not at all warm).

Brett Favre signs reinstatement letter but will wait to send it.

Meh, how often does he play football in Louisiana though? After 17 (or however many it was) years of playing in cold Green Bay, he probably got used to it.

From ESPN:
Quote:

Consider the Packers backed up against their own goal line.

Brett Favre followed through on his statements that he wanted to come out of retirement by faxing his reinstatement letter to the NFL on Tuesday, a source close to the quarterback told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Favre's actions now force Packers general manager Ted Thompson to make a decision. Favre told Mortensen on Sunday that the GM had pleaded with the quarterback not to show up at camp on Sunday, so that the situation could be resolved.

With no concrete movement in the past few days, Favre made his move. The Packers have publicly committed to Favre's backup from last season, Aaron Rodgers, however.

I heard that it was to keep him away from training camp until they worked out a deal, but it could be that, too.
