Women's Professional Soccer in the United States is the world's big stage for women's soccer stars. Forming out of the ashes of the defunct WUSA, the WPS has a better business model and has already become the destination for players like Brazilian Marta and Kelly Smith of England.

The English FA, however, is less than enthused with this development.

Coming just one day after the first WPS international player draft, England's Football Association has announced the creation of the Women's Super League. The league will play during the summer months (like WPS) and will start play in 2010 (one year after WPS).

Hope Powell, coach of the England Women's National Football Team, stated that the new league "will provide a concentrated, high-quality competition, and during the summer months give the game an exposure when there is no other top-flight football being played."

Powell went on to comment that she hopes that the creation of a women's league in England will stop players from playing in the United States.
