Major League Baseball is negotiating with a promoter about playing regular-season games in Puerto Rico for the 2010 season, likely involving the Mets as the visiting team, the Daily News has learned.

Serious dialogue has taken place in recent years about moving a Marlins home series against the Mets to Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, and the sides were considered close to an agreement last year.

The Mets would be a particularly attractive draw because of their Puerto Rican presence, including Carlos Beltran, Pedro Feliciano, Angel Pagan and Omir Santos. The Mets also are investigating re-signing Alex Cora, who hails from the island, and won't rule out bringing back Carlos Delgado, a product of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

The Mets played seven games against the Montreal Expos at Hiram Bithorn Stadium from 2003-04.
